Clinical trials are research studies involving humans. Many involve new treatments and techniques for addressing various diseases, illnesses, and health conditions. Others may require only data collection by questionnaire and a simple cheek swab. Hundreds of active clinical studies and trials are in progress across Partners institutions.
Every clinical trial has a plan for how it will be conducted, and each study has rules about who can participate. Some studies need healthy people, while others may be looking for people with a certain disease. The design of each trial is reviewed and its progress is monitored to ensure that the risks are small and are worth the potential benefits.
